Update from the Dam Short Film Festival #3!
Most good stories have a beginning, middle, and end. Relatedly, this third post will serve as the ‘end’ of this little Las Vegas adventure for Julia, Kevin, and I… at least for 2010.
We’re back in the big city of Las Vegas, a far cry from the humble town of Boulder City. Some friends we met there will be joining us in a bit, but for now we’re relaxing in our hotel room off the Vegas strip.
I think I can speak for myself and certainly Kevin, currently sleeping on a strangely patterned bed nearby, when I say that we are utterly exhausted. It was a wonderful time and very enjoyable on all counts, but it is totally overwhelming to see so many films in such a relatively short time.
We talked to a number of reporters from local newspapers and television and I’ll be sure to post them here as I find them!
Thanks for your support!
Love, Zach!

We got some press!
From the Las Vegas Sun:

Toni Fahnestock, 48, of Henderson, said she enjoyed Zachary Gore’s film “Here and Gone” and his use of photographs to tell the story of a breakup. After the set, Gore and lead actors Kevin Sheen and Julia McAlee took the stage to answer questions from the audience.
Boulder City resident Dan Briley, 39, told Gore after the question and answer session that he and his daughter, 11-year-old Luna Harbour, have made a family tradition of attending the festival.
“I busted her out of school so she could come here,” he said, jokingly. “We like these different movies because it’s something you wouldn’t normally be exposed to.”

Update from the Dam Short Film Festival #2!
Hello! Kevin, Julia, and I are quite enjoying our time here in Boulder City, NV, a lovely small town. We took to the local dive, The Back Stop, last night for a game of Shuffleboard [for the record, Kevin and I won a comeback victory over Julia and another filmmaker we met here.] We found two nickels and proceeded to play them in a slot machine, win more than $10 before losing it all again—but not before 4 AM. And, oh, there have been movies!
I’ve been very impressed by a lot of the stuff we’ve seen here and the desire to make another short [soon!] has been renewed in me. I wholeheartedly recommend this little film festival as, at the very least, a fun time, and potentially a great networking and inspiring viewing experience.
Tonight is the award gala… wish us luck!
